From Depression to Empowerment: 25-Year-Old Ghanaian American Designer Brings ‘Baddest’ Fashion Brand to Life

Designer overcomes mental health challenges and launches new project

Efua Amissah-Aggrey, a 25-year-old first-generation Ghanian American, launched her fashion brand “Baddest” in April of 2024. The brand aims to empower individuals to recognize their worth and value, encouraging them to boldly stand in it wherever they go.

While attending Fashion Week Columbus, Aggrey was inspired to take the leap and pursue her dream of becoming a fashion designer. Witnessing the creativity and talent of others around her fueled her desire to bring her own ideas to life. With the help of someone to enhance her sewing skills and grant money to kickstart her business, Aggrey began creating her first pieces.

As Aggrey immersed herself in the process of designing and creating clothes, she noticed a shift in her confidence and self-perception. Overcoming years of struggling with depression, she realized that embracing her true self was key to her mental well-being. This realization led to the birth of her brand “Baddest,” which aims to inspire individuals to affirm themselves and recognize their own value.

Aggrey wanted her clothing line to empower people to feel confident and comfortable in their own skin while embracing their worth. She hopes that those who wear her designs will exude confidence and feel empowered walking into any room.
