From Copa America Champions to Paris 2024: The Journey of Argentina’s Under-23 Football Team

Julian Alvarez: One of Four World Cup Winners Chosen for Argentina in Paris 2024 Olympics, Excluding Lionel Messi

In the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, the South American country of Argentina has selected a team of Under-23 national players to compete in the football tournament. While most teams are made up of young athletes aged 18-23, each team is allowed to bring three overage players to strengthen their squads.

For this tournament, Javier Mascherano and Julian Alvarez, both 36 and 24 years old respectively, will lead the team as senior players. They are joined by Geronimo Rulli from Ajax and Nicolas Otamendi from Benfica. These four players bring a wealth of experience to the team and will be crucial in helping Argentina defend their title on the world stage.

The Olympic men’s football competition will take place from July 24 to August 9 at the Parc des Princes stadium, where Argentina will face off against Morocco, Ukraine, and Iraq in Group B. Their ultimate goal is to win another gold medal for their country.

After leading Argentina in the Copa America, Otamendi mentioned that he felt overwhelmed by the thought of competing at such a high level on an international stage. However, he ultimately passed on the opportunity so that he could focus on his club career with Benfica instead. The rest of the team is determined to continue Argentine dominance on the world stage and make their country proud in Paris.
