From Conflict to High-End Living: Israel’s Quest for Alternative Vegetable Suppliers and Luxurious Urban Retreats

Israel seeks new supplier of agriculture products after Turkey’s withdrawal

During the ongoing conflict between Israel and Turkey, the Ministry of Agriculture has been forced to look for alternative suppliers of vegetables and fruits for Israeli stores and retail chains. This is due to a significant decrease in imports of onions, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, and pears from Turkey. Despite this setback, the Ministry of Agriculture assures that there is no expected shortage of these goods.

The decline in agricultural imports from Turkey began with the start of the war, resulting in a decrease in their share of imports. For example, in April 2021, only 70 tons out of 3,000 tons imported into Israel came from Turkey. Israel’s agricultural exports to Turkey are modest but significant, consisting of $16 million worth of dates and $11 million worth of vegetable seeds annually.

Given the current situation, Israel is now seeking other sources to meet the demand for vegetables and fruits in the country.
