From Chicago Suburbs to the Gridiron: Attorney Lauren Greene’s Journey to Support and Include LGBTQ+ Players in Los Angeles Flag Football.

Lauren Greene: A Proactive Ally in the Organization’s Flag Football League and Beyond

Attorney Lauren Greene, originally from the suburbs of Chicago and an avid football fan, sought ways to become more involved after the COVID pandemic. In spring 2023, she discovered OutLoud Sports’ Flag Football League in Los Angeles and has been actively participating ever since. The best part of her experience, according to Greene, has been the people she has met on the teams she played with and in the league overall. She highlighted Outloud flag football’s supportive and welcoming community as a significant factor in her decision to join.

Greene’s involvement with OutLoud Sports coincided with a partnership between the Los Angeles Rams and the organization, which has helped promote inclusivity in football over the past two years. Despite their elite status as representatives of the sport, Greene emphasized that it is crucial for organizations like OutLoud to support broader football communities by encouraging individuals to engage with the game at any level.

Greene draws inspiration from her family to be true to herself, recognizing that authenticity is essential for personal growth. She highlighted proactive allyship as a critical tool for supporting marginalized groups within the LGBTQ+ community, encouraging individuals to use their voices, platforms, and opportunities to advocate for change.

To celebrate Pride Month this year, Greene suggested proactive measures such as supporting local LGBTQ+ businesses, restaurants, and bars as well as participating in the annual pride parade. By taking these actions, individuals can contribute to a more inclusive and celebratory environment for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
