From Challenger to Pioneer: EYE-TECH’s Digital Eyes Revolutionize Autonomous Vehicles and Robotics

We are seeking solvers for the 2024 Bio-Inspired Sensor Technology projects

In October 2023, a Bio-inspired sensor technology challenge was launched with the goal of discovering solutions for Detection & Tracking applications using neuromorphic sensors. These sensors are modeled after the functionality of the retina, similar to the human eye. This category includes event-based sensors that respond to changes in light intensity, sensors that mimic the dynamics of the human eye, and sensors that use neuromorphic processing.

The EYE-TECH start-up from Carrara, led by Monica Vatteroni and Andrea Raggi, presented the EYE2DRIVE – Building the digital EYE project as the winners of the challenge. They were awarded a 12-month contract for direct collaboration with Leonardo. The project aims to develop a new generation of digital eyes that can be used in various applications such as autonomous vehicles and robots. The team is working on improving the accuracy and efficiency of these eyes by incorporating advanced neural networks and machine learning algorithms.
