French woman Anouk Garnier made history on Wednesday by breaking the world rope climbing record, reaching the second floor of the Eiffel Tower in just 18 minutes. Climbing an impressive 110 meters, Garnier set a new high and also raised money for cancer prevention and support.
Despite facing challenges like coordinating schedules and dealing with unfavorable weather, Garnier never lost sight of her goal. She expressed her satisfaction and joy after completing the challenge, calling it a crazy dream come true. With this achievement, she surpassed previous records set by athletes such as South African Thomas Van Tonder and Danish Ida Mathilde Steensgaard.
Garnier’s motivation to climb came from watching Steensgaard’s success, leading her to take up rope climbing in 2022 after winning the world obstacle course championship for her age category. She dedicated her achievement to her family, who encouraged her to strive for excellence in sports. Her mother’s battle with cancer inspired Garnier to contribute in any way she could towards cancer prevention and support efforts.
Looking ahead, Garnier plans to return to obstacle racing and carry the Olympic torch in Marseille in May as a showcase of her dedication towards maintaining fitness for the next decade. Despite facing challenges during the climb, Garnier’s determination and passion for pushing herself continue to drive her towards future challenges and accomplishments.
