Former Trump Financial Director Sentenced for Perjury as Civil Trial and Criminal Charges Pile Against Trump

Former Financial Director of Trump Organization Sentenced to Five Months for Perjury

On Wednesday, former Trump Organization financial director Allen Weisselberg was sentenced to five months in prison for perjury during a civil trial involving ex-boss Donald Trump. Weisselberg, who had previously served time behind bars for tax fraud in 2022, pleaded guilty to lying about the value of Trump Organization real estate assets during the trial. As he arrived at court, he was immediately taken into custody after being sentenced by a judge.

Just before Weisselberg’s conviction, a criminal trial against Trump is set to open in New York courts. This trial is linked to payments made to Stormy Daniels, a former porn star who claimed to have had a sexual relationship with Trump in 2006. Trump is accused of concealing these payments by falsifying Trump Organization business records. If found guilty, he could face a prison sentence in the midst of his 2024 presidential campaign against Joe Biden.

During the civil trial, Weisselberg admitted to lying about the value of Trump’s real estate, specifically concerning his personal triplex in Trump Tower in New York. In addition to Weisselberg’s conviction, Donald Trump himself was fined $355 million by the Supreme Court of New York for financial fraud related to inflated real estate values. Despite appealing the conviction, he had to post a $175 million guarantee in American justice.
