Former Saxony Headmaster Arrested in Cambodia for Child Sexual Abuse More Than a Year After Escape

Former Saxony school principal apprehended after fleeing to Cambodia

In March of 2023, a former headmaster from Saxony who was convicted of serious child sexual abuse was apprehended in Cambodia more than a year after he escaped. The 55-year-old had fled Germany following his conviction for assaulting a then 13-year-old student in the school library in May 2021.

The man’s arrest was made possible thanks to investigations that uncovered information about his flight bookings and the fact that he had opened a guesthouse in Cambodia. However, due to difficulties in extraditing him from Cambodia to Germany, another solution had to be found. When his visa expired, local police arrested him on March 6th and later transferred him to Bangkok, Thailand, where officers from the Saxony State Criminal Police Office and the Görlitz Police Department took custody of him.

Prior to his escape, the man had been sentenced to three years and one month in prison for his serious sexual abuse of children at a school in Mücka in the Görlitz district. The abuse took place in May 2021 when he assaulted a then 13-year-old student in the school library. Similar accusations had been made by schoolgirls in 2016 and 2018, but those cases were dropped due to a lack of evidence. However, the most recent case led to his conviction.
