Former Rutgers Offensive Lineman and Transfer Portals: From Ineligible to Leading Big Ten Teams

Rutgers alum Isaiah Wright joins Maryland football team

Maryland has recently welcomed former Rutgers offensive lineman Isaiah Wright to the Terps program. Wright originally committed to Rutgers as part of the 2020 recruiting class and spent his first two college seasons with the Scarlet Knights before entering the transfer portal. During his time at Rutgers, Wright did not see any playing time, but he did earn Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2021.

After transferring to the University of Buffalo, Wright started 24 games over the past two seasons at both left tackle and center. In his first season with Buffalo in 2022, he started all 13 games at left tackle and helped lead the team to a top-five scoring offense in the MAC Conference. Wright contributed to Buffalo’s success with a total offensive output of 377.2 yards per game and a passing offense of 235.3 yards per game.

Wright, who stands at 6 feet 4 inches and weighs 305 pounds, was a three-star recruit in high school and was ranked the No. 115 defensive lineman in his recruiting class by On3. At St. Peter’s Prep High School in Jersey City, New Jersey, he helped his team achieve an 11-1 record during his senior year.

Now, with two years of eligibility remaining, Wright brings his versatility and experience to a Maryland team that finished with an 8-5 record last season, including a victory over Auburn in the Music City Bowl. Maryland hopes that Wright’s skills and leadership will contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming seasons as they continue their journey towards becoming one of the top teams in the Big Ten conference.
