Former Rutgers AD Tim Pernetti on the Brink of Becoming AAC Commissioner

New commissioner potentially named for American Athletic Conference – NBC10 Philadelphia

Sources close to the American Athletic Conference (AAC) have revealed that former Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti is in the final stages of being hired as the league’s next commissioner. Pernetti, a New Jersey native and former Rutgers football player, currently serves as the president of IMG Academy in Florida.

The AAC is looking to replace outgoing commissioner Mike Aresco with Pernetti, who has been widely praised for his work at Rutgers. Yahoo! Sports first reported that Pernetti was being considered for the position, and sources close to the conference have confirmed that he is indeed the frontrunner.

Pernetti previously held the role of athletic director at Rutgers from 2009-2013, during which he played a key role in securing the school’s membership in the Big Ten conference. However, he resigned from his position after a scandal involving the abuse of players by the men’s basketball coach.

Despite this setback, Pernetti has continued to work in sports programming and has been instrumental in launching College Sports Television. As he prepares to take over as commissioner of the AAC, he will be tasked with guiding the league through its ongoing evolution and ensuring its continued success on and off the field.
