Pau Lopez, the former Roma goalkeeper, is reportedly on the verge of making a return to Italy with newly-promoted Como. According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, Lopez is expected to sign a loan deal with the option to buy at the end of the season. The move comes as Como looks to strengthen their squad after earning promotion to Serie A by finishing second in the Serie B table.
Lopez previously played for Roma from 2019 to 2021, before moving to Olympique Marseille on loan and then permanently for €12 million. However, he has been linked to a return to Italy in recent months and it seems that Como is now his most likely destination.
Como had also been linked to Emil Audero, another goalkeeper owned by Sampdoria who spent last season on loan at Inter. However, it is unclear if this move will go ahead as well.
Lopez has previously played for clubs like Espanyol, Real Betis, and Tottenham Hotspur. Additionally, Como recently hosted Raphael Varane and it is reported that he is considering their proposal as well. The club is looking to further strengthen its squad ahead of its return to Serie A next season.
