Former NBA Player Arrested for Providing False Report, Refusing to Give Name in Scottsdale

Cameron Payne, NBA guard, arrested in Scottsdale but later released from jail

NBA free agent guard Cameron Payne was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona on Friday morning for allegedly providing police officers with a false report and refusing to give his name. The news of Payne’s arrest was first reported by TMZ Sports.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance call at approximately 2:44 a.m. and found Payne and another individual on the scene. Details regarding the disturbance were not provided by the police, but Payne was taken into custody and booked at Scottsdale City Jail. He was released shortly after.

Payne, who is 29 years old, played for the Phoenix Suns for four seasons from 2019-23. He was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder as the 14th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft after his college career at Murray State. Throughout his nine-year NBA career, Payne has also played for the Thunder, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Philadelphia 76ers.

In February, the Bucks traded Payne to the Sixers along with a second-round pick in exchange for Patrick Beverley. During his time with the Sixers in the regular season, he averaged 9.3 points and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 38% on 3-pointers
