Former Fish House North Employee Sentenced to 34 Years in Prison for Armed Robbery and Shooting of Three Employees

Ex-employee who robbed Charlotte business and shot workers receives 34-year prison sentence

Robert Lee Barringer, a former employee at Fish House North in Charlotte, was sentenced to more than 34 years in prison for robbing the business and shooting three employees in 2021. On July 26, 2021, the incident occurred at Fish House North on North Tryon Street. CMPD officers arrived at the scene to find three employees with gunshot wounds. All three individuals were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

After shooting the victims, Barringer demanded the keys to the register from one of them and forced another to open it. He stole $3,500 from the business and fled the scene. Barringer was later found and arrested in a Charlotte hotel on July 28, 2021.

Barringer was found guilty on August 5, 2022, of interference with commerce by robbery, and use, carry, and possession of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. He has a criminal history of federal and state charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. As a result of his conviction, he will remain in federal custody until he is designated to a federal facility by the federal Bureau of Prisons.
