Former Dallas Cowboys Star Ezekiel Elliott Makes Case for Reunion with the Team

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, it appears that the Cowboys and free agent running back Ezekiel Elliott are considering reuniting. This news is not surprising, as the Cowboys are currently searching for a veteran running back after Tony Pollard left in free agency, and Elliott is looking for a job. If Elliott does return to the Cowboys, they are likely to draft a running back to serve as a starter alongside him.

Currently, the Cowboys have Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner on their roster at the running back position. Elliott, who will turn 29 this summer, spent the first seven years of his career with the Cowboys before being released last March. He then signed a one-year deal with the Patriots.

During the 2021 season, Elliott had career lows in carries, rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, yards per carry, yards from scrimmage and total touchdowns. However, he did lead the team in rushing yards and receptions. Most of Elliott’s workload came in the final six weeks of the season due to an injury to Rhamondre Stevenson.

Selected fourth overall in the 2016 draft, Elliott led the league in rushing in two of his first three seasons and has earned Pro Bowl honors three times. If he does rejoin the Cowboys it could be interesting to see how he performs alongside another talented running back like Pollard or even a rookie drafted by Dallas.
