Food Hall Faces Turnover, Reno Public Market Stands by Diversity and Dynamic Shopping Experience

High Rent Forces Businesses to Leave Reno Public Market

Reno Public Market is a food hall that opened its doors last year at the intersection of S. Virginia Street and Plumb Lane. Recently, business owners at the market have announced their departure, citing high rent as the primary reason for leaving. Sarah Reynosa, owner of Fuego Street Tacos, expressed her concerns to RPM management about the rent being too high for her business to remain profitable. Despite her efforts to cut costs by working long hours, reducing staff, and seeking out more affordable food sources, Reynosa was advised by RPM management to increase prices in order to cover the rent.

Reno Public Market released a statement acknowledging that turnover in merchants is a normal part of the business cycle, especially in a diverse marketplace like a food hall. They emphasized the importance of meeting consumer needs and the evolution of dining, shopping, and entertainment experiences. RPM stated that they are constantly evaluating new offerings to attract customers and support their merchants through marketing efforts. While they do not comment on individual businesses publicly, they are committed to fostering a vibrant and dynamic marketplace for both customers and merchants.

In response to business owners leaving or closing down, RPM also expressed gratitude to all businesses, past and present, for their contributions to making Reno Public Market a destination for dining, shopping and entertainment. Despite this turnover in merchants, RPM remains dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where people can gather for food and community building activities.
