Fluvius Faces Legal Action from VREG over Persistent IT Problems and Billing Delays

Energy Regulator Files Lawsuit Against Fluvius for IT Problems

Fluvius, a Belgian energy provider, is facing legal action from the Flemish energy regulator VREG. This was reported by Het Laatste Nieuws on Tuesday. The issue stems from persistent IT problems that have been ongoing for nearly three years, resulting in thousands of Flemish residents not receiving an energy bill in months or even years.

In November 2021, Fluvius launched Atrias, a centralized database designed to streamline the exchange of data related to energy consumption and billing with energy providers. However, due to a software glitch, the database is not functioning as intended, leading to numerous complaints.

Barbara Janssens, spokesperson for VREG, stated that they have determined that Fluvius has not resolved the situation as expected. As a result, legal action will be taken against the company. Unfortunately for Fluvius, details of the legal action are yet to be clarified in the coming week.

Fluvius has responded to the situation by stating that they were not informed of specific steps involved in the legal action against them. However, it is clear that their persistent IT problems have caused significant disruptions and inconvenience for Flemish residents and small to medium-sized enterprises who are still waiting for their bills.
