Florida Food Establishments: A Week in Review of Inspections, Shut-Downs, and Violations in Central Florida

Health Inspections Force Closure of Two Restaurants in Central Florida Last Week – Orlando Sentinel

In the week of June 16-24, two Central Florida restaurants in Volusia County were shut down as reported by data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Uncle Chicken’s Cast Iron Kitchen in New Smyrna Beach and Sally’s Diner IV LLC in Orange City both faced inspection violations.

Uncle Chicken’s Cast Iron Kitchen was shut down on June 18 after inspectors discovered seven violations, with two of them classified as high priority. The violations included food not being consumed within the required time frame and rodent activity. A follow-up inspection on June 19 revealed four violations, but none were deemed high priority. Despite these issues, the restaurant ultimately met inspection standards and was able to reopen.

Sally’s Diner IV LLC was also shut down on June 19 due to 17 violations, six of which were considered high priority. Issues included rodent activity, temperature abuse leading to a stop sale on food, and food coming into contact with an employee’s bare body part. A subsequent inspection on the same day found three violations, none of which were classified as high priority. Similar to Uncle Chicken’s Cast Iron Kitchen, Sally’s Diner IV LLC was able to meet inspection standards and reopen after addressing the issues that led to their closure.

In terms of complaints and warnings in Central Florida, Orange County received the most with 21 incidents followed by Osceola with nine violations. Volusia had 20 complaints and warnings while Seminole had seven complaints while Brevard had five complaints and Lake had seven incidents during this period.
