Fleetwood Town is pleased to announce the signing of two new players, former Everton midfielder Mackenzie Hunt and defender James Bolton from St Mirren. Bolton, 29, has signed a two-year contract and brings valuable experience to the Cod Army having played for various clubs such as Macclesfield, Halifax, Gateshead, Shrewsbury, Portsmouth, and Plymouth. He was part of the League One winning squad in 2022-23 with Plymouth.
On the other hand, Hunt, 22, was released by Everton earlier this summer and has also signed a two-year deal with Fleetwood. Despite being on Everton’s books since the age of 13, he never made a senior appearance for the club. However, he was named on the bench 17 times in the Premier League last season. Hunt expressed his excitement about joining Fleetwood and praised the manager’s ambitions. He believes that Fleetwood is the right place for him to start playing “proper football” after years of playing at lower levels.
Bolton’s arrival will strengthen Fleetwood’s backline while Hunt will provide much-needed energy and creativity in midfield. The team is looking forward to bouncing back from a disappointing season with these new additions to their squad.
Fleetwood Town manager Joey Barton said: “I am delighted to welcome both James Bolton and Mackenzie Hunt to our club. They are both talented players who have experience at different levels and will bring valuable depth to our squad.”
Hunt added: “I am thrilled to be joining Fleetwood Town and can’t wait to get started. I believe that this is the right place for me to develop my skills as a player and make a name for myself in football.”
