Fire Guts Restaurant, Injures Firefighter in West Valley City

Firefighter injured and at least 2 businesses suffer total losses in West Valley City strip mall fire

A fire broke out at El Pollo Royo on 4616 S. 4000 West in West Valley City around 5:45 p.m., resulting in a firefighter being injured and at least two businesses being declared total losses. The cause of the fire was still unknown as crews continued to battle the blaze late into Thursday night.

Omair Rehman, owner of neighboring Lucky Mart, described seeing smoke coming out of the ceiling tiles and then flames in the ceiling when he went back inside his store. He quickly gathered his belongings and fled, as he had just opened his convenience store in September and was still struggling with the business.

Rehman expressed sadness and shock over the incident but was grateful that everyone was safe and evacuated from the area. The community watched as first responders worked tirelessly to contain the fire and prevent further damage.

West Valley City Fire Chief John Evans reported that everyone was able to escape the businesses safely. Two businesses were total losses, and 10 were evacuated and impacted in some way.
