Fire Causes $650,000 in Damage and Road Closures on Lincoln’s Cornhusker Highway

Fire breaks out at North Lincoln business

On Monday, a fire broke out in a Lincoln business on Cornhusker Highway, causing road closures and leading to an ongoing investigation by Lincoln Fire and Rescue (LFR) crews. The fire was first reported near North 23rd Street and Cornhusker Highway at 2:35 p.m., with LFR dispatched to the scene following reports of an explosion and car fire.

Upon arrival, smoke was seen coming from the building, making it difficult for crews to contain the fire due to the strong southwest winds. The open garage doors only made things worse, as the fire spread quickly throughout the building. Unfortunately, parts of the building, including the roof and west wall, collapsed due to the intensity of the blaze. Another nearby business also suffered smoke and heat damage.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this incident. LFR is still investigating the cause of the fire, which resulted in $500,000 in damage to the building and $150,000 to its contents. However, due to the collapse and other hazards, the building is currently deemed unsafe for use.

Despite this incident, Cornhusker Highway has reopened to traffic in both directions with an overnight lane closure in place for safety purposes. Motorists are advised to drive carefully through the area as they navigate around any remaining hazards left by the fire. Stay tuned for further developments as LFR continues their investigation into this incident on 1011now.com.
