Finnish Defense Company in the Running for Significant German Procurements Despite Potential Loss of a Billion-Euro Arms Deal

Patria remains in the running for billion-dollar deal with Germany

German economic magazine Handelsblatt reported that Patria, a Finnish defense company, is still in the running for significant defense procurements in Germany. Despite this, the company is facing a potential loss of a billion-euro arms deal, as reported by Bloomberg on Monday.

According to reports, Germany was initially planning to purchase 900 armored vehicles from Rheinmetall, a German arms giant, instead of Patria’s 6×6 wagons as a replacement for their aging Fuchs vehicles. However, sources from Handelsblatt revealed that Germany is acquiring successors to the Fennek reconnaissance vehicles and not the Fuchs from Rheinmetall. This indicates that there may be a different acquisition than initially anticipated.

Patria, which is owned by the Finnish state and Norwegian defense equipment company Kongsberg, has been engaged in negotiations with Germany regarding the replacement of Fuchs vehicles with 6×6 wagons. While Patria has refrained from commenting on the situation or negotiations’ progress so far, they have emphasized that any orders from Germany would be manufactured in Germany despite currently producing 6×6 wagons in Finland.
