According to The New York Times, FIFA and Apple are close to finalizing a broadcast rights deal for the league’s new tournament known as the FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament is set to begin on June 15, 2025 and will run for a month. While FIFA had estimated that it could earn as much as $4 billion for the rights to the tournament worldwide, sources indicate that Apple’s deal may only be worth around $1 billion. It remains unclear if Apple will stream the games exclusively on its premium service Apple TV+ or if there will be other viewing options available.

If this deal goes through, it will mark a first in FIFA’s history – holding all broadcast rights for the tournament worldwide. This is especially significant given that FIFA already has a $2.5 billion deal with Major League Soccer for streaming rights. The tournament officially known as Mundial de Clubes FIFA, will use a ranking methodology to determine team placement based on sporting criteria.

The original launch date for this tournament was 2021 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was delayed until 2025. The matches will take place in major arenas and NFL stadiums across the US which means that FIFA would need to rent out these facilities to accommodate them.
