After reports emerged that Caitlin Clark was left off the USA women’s basketball team for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Indiana Fever claimed that this snub had “awakened a monster.” However, it seemed as though this monster was not present on Monday night as the Sun defeated the Fever 89-72.
Despite scoring 30 points and hitting seven 3-pointers in her last game, Clark struggled against Connecticut, finishing with just 10 points on 3-for-8 shooting. This marked one of her lowest scoring totals of her rookie season and she left the game early in the third quarter after drawing her fourth foul.
The Sun was led by DiJonai Carrington with 22 points and Alyssa Thomas grabbed 18 rebounds. Bonner also made history by moving into tenth place on the WNBA’s all-time 3-point list. Despite the crowd’s cheers for Clark, the Fever could not recover and lost to Connecticut once again. With this loss, they fell to 3-10 for the season and 2-5 on the road. They will next face the Atlanta Dream at home. Meanwhile, the Sun improved to a record of 10-1 and will play their next game against Chicago Sky away from home.
