FDA Warns Against Consuming Diamond-Shruumz Products Amid Ongoing Investigation of Illnesses Linked to Mushroom-Infused Snacks

In response to the ongoing investigation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is urging residents not to consume Diamond-Shruumz products. The FDA, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is currently investigating illnesses linked to Diamond Shruumz-brand microdosing chocolate bars, infused cones, or micro dose and macro dose gummies. These products are labeled as containing a mixture of mushrooms such as reishi and lion’s mane.

The FDA has yet to determine the cause of these illnesses, but health officials are concerned that they may be caused by contamination or adverse effects from the ingredients used in these products. As such, individuals who have consumed these products should seek medical attention immediately if they experience any symptoms such as seizures, central nervous system depression, agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting.

It is important to note that these products are intended for individuals 18 years old and older. However, Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, Michigan’s chief medical executive, recommends that parents and caregivers have conversations with their teens about this issue. Retailers have been instructed not to sell or distribute any of these products until further notice from the FDA.

As of Tuesday, there have been 26 reported cases in 16 states but no cases in Michigan yet. It is crucial for everyone to exercise caution when consuming new or unfamiliar supplements or food items to avoid potential harm or adverse effects on health.
