Fauci vs. Greene: A Clash of Views on the Coronavirus Pandemic

Marjorie Taylor Greene demands Dr. Fauci be imprisoned for his ‘disgusting and wicked science’ during chaotic Covid hearing

During a hearing of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene accused Dr. Anthony Fauci of trying to suppress information about the origins of Covid-19 and claimed he funded research that led to the pandemic. She also criticized Fauci’s previous statements and refused to acknowledge him as a doctor, insisting on calling him “Mr. Fauci”.

Fauci denied Greene’s accusations and defended his work as a scientist, but the confrontation between them highlighted the tensions and disagreements surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic response and public health measures. Greene held up images of beagles who were experimented on for the National Institutes of Health, accusing Fauci of allowing Americans’ tax dollars to be spent on such research. She also accused Fauci of making up the six-feet social distancing rule, which he denied.

The incident prompted questions about whether Greene could deny that Fauci is a doctor. Despite her insistence on calling him “Mr. Fauci”, Fauci defended his credentials and work as a scientist. The confrontation between Greene and Fauci underscores the deep divisions within politics and public health over how to respond to the ongoing pandemic.
