Muslims worldwide are currently observing the month of Ramadan, during which they fast from food and drink from sunrise until sunset. This annual tradition is considered one of the most important times of the year for the Islamic faith, with millions of participants across the country taking part.

Anas Shaikh, the imam and executive director of the Islamic Organization of the Southern Tier, notes that while fasting can be challenging at first, it becomes easier after a few days. By abstaining from food and drink, participants can reduce their blood pressure and stress levels, as well as protect their kidneys and improve overall health.

Ramadan also serves as a form of spiritual discipline for Muslims, helping them to better understand the plight of those who are less fortunate. During this time, mosques become more crowded than usual, with both Muslims and non-Muslims participating in prayers. Many Muslims invite colleagues and friends to join them in observing Ramadan, making it a community event that brings people together in faith.

The month of Ramadan will end on Tuesday, April 9th. While fasting can be difficult at times, faith leaders encourage Muslims to continue practicing this important tradition in order to reap its many health benefits and bring themselves closer to God.
