FASS Berlin Takes Home Championship in Thrilling Ice Hockey Match

Berlin’s FASS crowned regional ice hockey champions

The FASS Berlin team won the championship of the Ice Hockey Regional League East for the first time in their history with a thrilling 4-1 win in Chemnitz. This victory marked the North Berliners’ biggest triumph since 1981 and was celebrated by coach Christopher Scholz and his team, who put on an impressive performance in front of around 1,200 fans, including a group from the capital.

The team displayed consistency and focus throughout the match, leading 3-0 by the 35th minute with goals from Felix Braun (2) and Markus Babinsky. Despite falling behind 1-3 early in the game, FASS never wavered and maintained their composure until they scored to make it 4-1 in the 44th minute.

Coach Scholz praised his team’s performance, calling it their best away game of the season and one of their best games all season long. Captain Tom Fiedler echoed his coach’s sentiments, emphasizing that their determination, strong play, and timely goals were key factors in their victory. He also expressed pride in the team’s unity and family-like bond as they celebrated this significant achievement at the end of his career.

While FASS did not consider pursuing promotion to a higher league due to financial challenges associated with playing at a fully professional level, club chairman Lucien Aicher expressed excitement for future success as he recognized the team’s potential in the Regionalliga East. Additionally, FASS celebrated a girls’ championship title in the 1st Women’s League North/East on top of this victory, making it a double win for the club at season’s end.
