Farewell to the Beloved Kabosu: Remembering a Dog Who Inspired the World

Kabosu, the Canine Inspiration Behind Dogecoin, Passes Away

Atsuko Sato, a kindergarten teacher from Sakura, Japan, announced on Friday that her beloved dog Kabosu had passed away at the age of 18. In a blog post, Sato shared that Kabosu had peacefully fallen asleep on a beautiful morning while birds sang outside their window. Despite her passing, Kabosu remains an inspiration to the Dogecoin community worldwide.

Kabosu rose to internet stardom in 2010 when a photo of her with folded paws and a curious look became widely shared on platforms like Reddit. This led to the creation of numerous “doge” memes, with Kabosu’s face photoshopped onto various images. Her popularity skyrocketed in 2013 when she became the face of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, a playful response to Bitcoin. Notable figures like Elon Musk have endorsed Dogecoin, with Musk even polling his followers on Twitter about accepting Dogecoin payments at Tesla. The demand for Dogecoin soared in popularity, causing issues with cryptocurrency trading platforms like Robinhood.

Sato had previously shared in social media posts that Kabosu was battling leukemia and liver disease. Sato intends to hold a farewell gathering to honor the memory of her beloved pet. This gathering will bring together those who were touched by Kabosu’s presence and influence.
