Family-owned Party Value Business Closes Due to Effects of Pandemic on Consumer Shopping Habits

Minneapolis institution Litin’s Party Value closing its doors after 75 years

Litin’s Party Value, a family-owned business that specializes in party supplies and paper, announced that it will be closing this summer. The decision to shut down was made due to the effects of the pandemic on consumer shopping habits. The company, originally founded by Don Litin in 1947 as the Litin Paper Company, has since expanded its product offerings to include shipping and packaging, office supplies, and party supplies.

Litin’s Party Value opened its doors to the public in 1966 in downtown Minneapolis and has since relocated several times. In 2018, the store moved to its current location at 913 Plymouth Ave. North. Owner Ned Litin reflected on the store’s history as a one-stop shopping destination for various organizations and individuals seeking supplies for celebrations and special occasions. The company will begin selling off its inventory on June 11 and is expected to close by the end of July due to changes in consumer shopping habits caused by the pandemic.
