Explosion Kills Man, Business Owner Arrested at NYC Airport

Noor Noel Kestou, a resident of Commerce Township and owner of a suburban Detroit business that caught fire and exploded on March 4, resulting in the death of a man named Turner Lee Salter, was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York as he was attempting to depart for Hong Kong on a one-way ticket.

U.S. Customs and New York Port Authority personnel took Kestou into custody upon his arrival at the airport and brought him back to Michigan on Wednesday. On Thursday, Kestou was arraigned on an involuntary manslaughter charge in Clinton Township District Court.

The explosion took place in a Clinton Township building that housed a vaping industry distributor called Goo. The business had more than 100,000 vape pens stored at the site, with authorities stating that a delivery of butane canisters had been made to the building just one week before the explosion. When the explosion occurred, canisters were propelled up to 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) into the air, and over half of the stock remained there when the fire started.

Lucido shared that on April 20th, they were notified that Kestou was attempting to fly to Hong Kong but their intentions were unclear. According to Lucido, who also mentioned that he has been released on a $500,000 bond and is required to wear a GPS tether; Kestou is the primary suspect due to being the business owner of Goo where Salter lost his life during the incident. A probable cause hearing has been set for May 7th in Clinton Township District Court
