Exploring Hurricane Science, Mitigation, and Preparedness at the Museum of Discovery and Science’s Eye of the Storm

Get ready for the start of hurricane season on June 1 as the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS), Florida International University’s (FIU) International Hurricane Research Center (IHRC), and the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) come together to host “Eye of the Storm,” a day of education, museum exploration, and weather preparedness. The event is free for admission to MODS on this special day.

During “Eye of the Storm,” attendees will have access to interactive family-friendly activities such as presentations and demonstrations by hurricane experts, air cannon missile demonstrations, FIU wind engineering exhibits, NOAA Hurricane Hunters, live weather theater shows, local TV meteorologists, a Kids Zone, weather science demos, all-day museum exploration, emergency vehicle “Touch a Truck,” and a meet and greet with South Florida first responders. The event is generously sponsored by various organizations including Broward County Cultural Division, City of Fort Lauderdale Emergency Management, FPL, International Hurricane Protection Association, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. Department of Commerce.
