Exploring the Influence of Wildfire on Trout Genetics in Rocky Mountains with Scholarship Winner Taylor Stack: A Sunday Science Program by Central Colorado Humanists

On June 2, 2024, the Central Colorado Humanists (CCH) will host their Sunday Science program with the topic “The Influences of Wildfire in Genetic Diversity of Trout in Rocky Mountain Headwater Streams”. The presenter for this program is Taylor Stack, a former recipient of a CCH scholarship and a graduate of Salida High School. Additionally, the recipients of the 2024 CCH scholarships will be recognized during the event.

Taylor Stack studied wildlife conservation biology and biochemistry at Western Colorado University and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in fish, wildlife, and conservation biology at Colorado State University. His future plans involve working as a species conservation biologist, focusing on wildlife preservation. Aside from his academic accomplishments, Taylor is also recognized for his achievements in running. He has won several championships and competitions, including the 2021 NCAA steeplechase championship and the Salida’s Run Through Time Marathon. His dedication to both academics and sports highlights his passion and commitment to his field of study.

During the event, the CCH will also announce and introduce the recipients of their 2024 scholarships. The scholarships include four $1,500 awards for Buena Vista graduates heading to college, one $1,000 scholarship for a student enrolling in trade school, four $1,500 scholarships for Salida students, and three $1,000 scholarships for students who are receiving their second CCH scholarship.

The CCH hosts Sunday Science programs on the first Sunday of every month. These programs cover a variety of scientific topics that are accessible to both experts and non-experts. The doors open at 9:30 a.m., and the presentation begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. Admission is free
