In 2023, Vinofiore on Main St. in Shallotte opened its doors to the public, co-founded by Julia Steffen and her friend and neighbor, Jenna Knutsen. The idea for the ecommerce site selling wine and offering a wine club began with conversations between Steffen and her neighbor, Betsy Braddock, who owned an Italian wine importing business.
The shop carries wines from Braddock’s Petrea Imports as well as selections from other companies. The demand for more space quickly became apparent, leading them to expand by acquiring the space next door just a few months after opening. A renovation in December resulted in an expanded space with seating for about 40 people in a light and bright environment.
Vinofiore features global wines from small and medium-sized producers that are not typically found in grocery stores. The shop offers daily wine tastings, free of charge, and customers can also enjoy a glass of wine in the cozy setting. In addition to wine, Vinofiore sells gifts, snacks, and crackers, and hosts special wine events, a wine club, and live music. The space is available for private events after hours or on Sundays and Mondays.
Steffen, who has a newfound passion for wine, finds the subject to be fascinating and realizes the excitement the shop has brought to the area. Vinofiore is a unique addition to the area, offering a different experience for local residents and visitors alike. The shop has quickly gained popularity and become a gathering place for wine enthusiasts in the community.
