Exploring the Fascinating World of Photons: A Scientific Inquiry Series at the Museum of the Rockies

Science of Light Talk to be Hosted at Museum of the Rockies

The Science Inquiry Series at the Museum of the Rockies presents Dr. Krishna Rupavatharam on April 24th at 6 p.m., who will be discussing photons and their applications to science and innovation. Dr. Rupavatharam, the director of Montana State University’s Spectrum Lab, has extensive experience in photonics, which is the science of light. He will share his experiences and discuss how light can be manipulated for various applications such as remote sensing, holographic imaging, quantum teleportation, and communication.

Dr. Rupavatharam holds a Ph.D. in optical physics from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India, where he gained a deep understanding of light and its properties. He later worked at the Lund Institute of Technology in Sweden before joining MSU Spectrum Lab to continue his research on photonics applications in science and innovation. Additionally, he serves on the board of directors for the Montana Photonics and Quantum Alliance, showcasing his dedication to advancing this field of study in Montana.

The Science Inquiry Series talks are free and open to the public, sponsored by Gallatin Valley Friends of the Sciences and Hopa Mountain, and hosted by the Museum of the Rockies. Following Dr. Rupavatharam’s presentation will be a Q&A session where attendees can ask questions about photons and their various applications in science and innovation. This event promises to provide an insightful exploration into one of nature’s most fascinating phenomena – light!
