Exploring Career Paths: Science Hill Students Visit Mullican Flooring and Attend State Street Tattoo Fest

Students from Science Hill High School gain hands-on experience at Mullican Flooring

A group of Science Hill High School students recently had the chance to visit Mullican Flooring, a successful locally-headquartered company in Johnson City, Tennessee. The students learned about the company’s 40-year history and how it processes and distributes its wood products.

Mullican Flooring, which began in Johnson City and now has headquarters near Watauga Road, also has locations in Virginia, West Virginia, and New York. The students were accompanied by their STEM teacher, Dr. Brad Gentry, and CTE college and career coordinator, Josh Jarnigan during the tour. They were able to see firsthand the operations at Mullican Flooring and learned about the entire manufacturing process from start to finish.

During the tour, Kyle Evans, the vice president of manufacturing at Mullican Flooring showed various pieces of machinery and equipment used in the manufacturing process. At the end of the visit, they were informed about different employment opportunities available in the flooring industry. This hands-on experience provided them with a better understanding of the industry and potential career paths within it.

In addition to visiting Mullican Flooring, those interested in tattoos can attend State Street Tattoo Fest this weekend in Bristol for a unique artistic experience. Whether exploring manufacturing processes or attending a tattoo event like this one, there are plenty of opportunities for learning and growth in the Tri-Cities region.
