Experiencing Luxury: A Journalist’s Reflection on Air New Zealand’s Business-Class Seats

The High Cost of Long-Haul Business-Class Flights May Not Be Worth It

In the summer of 2021, I was invited by Air New Zealand to visit their headquarters and experience their newly redesigned cabins. For the flight to Auckland, I was seated in business class for the first time. It was an incredibly glamorous experience, but I knew it was not something I could afford to do often.

As a journalist, I always find myself looking at first-class and business-class seats when booking a flight. The extra space, delicious food, and unlimited drinks are incredibly tempting. However, the reality is that my budget doesn’t allow for such extravagance. That changed when I was invited by Air New Zealand in the summer of 2021 to visit their headquarters and experience their newly redesigned cabins.

The cost of Air New Zealand’s business-class seats on this route is typically around $6,000, which is quite expensive. While it was definitely the most luxurious flight I have taken, I don’t see myself justifying that expense again in the near future. The seat itself was incredibly comfortable with plenty of legroom and space for storage. The food served during the flight was delicious and diverse with a range of options available including vegetarian and vegan choices. Unlimited drinks were available at any time throughout the flight which added a nice touch to an already luxurious experience
