Experienced Coach Walter Mazzarri to Lead Iranian Club Persepolis FC in New Challenge

Former Napoli coach Mazzarri on the verge of joining Iran’s Persepolis FC

Italian coach Walter Mazzarri is reportedly set to take on a new challenge with Iranian club Persepolis FC. The 62-year-old has been shortlisted for the role and has been confirmed by Sky Sport Italia as the new coach of the team.

Mazzarri recently had a stint with Napoli in Serie A and the Champions League, which ended in November 2023. Despite some success with six wins, three draws, and eight defeats, he was sacked from his position. This new opportunity with Persepolis FC will be his second coaching role abroad, following a brief spell at English club Watford in the 2016-17 season.

Throughout his career, Mazzarri has held coaching positions at various Italian clubs, including Livorno, Reggina, Sampdoria, Inter, Torino, and Cagliari. Now, he will bring his wealth of experience to the Iranian club, adding to his diverse coaching portfolio.

Persepolis FC is currently reigning Persian Gulf Pro League champions and were in need of a new coach after Brazilian Osmar Loss Vieira’s departure. Mazzarri’s appointment makes him the second Italian coach to take on a role in Iran, following Andrea Stramaccioni’s brief tenure with Esteghlal in 2019. This new chapter in Mazzarri’s career promises to bring fresh challenges and opportunities as he looks to make his mark with the Iranian club.

As an experienced coach with a track record of success in Italy and abroad
