The Para Snowboard World Cup Begins at Mount Sima in Whitehorse

The Lost in Paradise FIS Para Snowboard World Cup and Festival is currently underway at Mount Sima in Whitehorse until March 31. This Easter weekend event marks the final set of Para Snowboard World Cup races for the season, featuring various competitions and celebrations.

The festivities kicked off with an event at the Canada Games Centre on March 27. On March 28 and 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., para snowboarders will race down the banked slalom course at Mount Sima. Canadian athletes like Tyler Turner and Alex Massie are among those competing in the banked slalom races.

After the para snowboarding competition on March 29, awards will be given out at the Winterlong After Party starting at 4 p.m. at the mountain. In addition to the racing action, the festival also includes spectator activities like a vendor area, beer garden, DJ performances, and free hot dogs.

Following the World Cup event, Mount Sima will host the 2024 Snowboard Yukon Champs from March 29 to 30. This friendly competition is open to snowboarders of all ages and abilities, featuring events like slopestyle, snowboard cross, and banked slalom.

The Lost in Paradise event marks the first time a para snowboarding world cup has been held in the Yukon. However, the territory has a history of hosting world cup events, such as the Cross Country World Cup in the 1980s. The collaboration between Canada Snowboard, Mount Sima, Snowboard Yukon, and Sport Yukon has made this unique event possible.
