Expanding Vienna’s Logistics Hub: A 60 Million Euro Investment for Sustainable Growth

Haselsteiner and Zöchling seek to enlarge logistics hub in Vienna-Aspern

Vienna’s 22nd district is set to see a major expansion of its logistics center, as construction tycoon Hans Peter Haselsteiner and Viennese entrepreneur Stephan Zöchling announce plans to build a new logistics hall. The two investors are investing 60 million euros in the project, which will see a new hall with a volume of 250,000 cubic meters and a large-scale photovoltaic system built on 4.1 hectares of land.

The new hall will be adjacent to the former Konsum logistics center, which Haselsteiner and Zöchling acquired in 2017. The entire property spans 23.6 hectares and has a building permit until the end of 2055, granted by the City of Vienna. The planned logistics hall aims to strengthen existing operational use while supporting the long-term preservation of logistics at the location.

To revitalize the local microclimate, the hall roofs will be designed as green flat roofs and non-lighting facades will be covered with ground-based plants. The City of Vienna will also construct a new road connection to accommodate the operational requirements of the logistics center, which may operate 24/7.

The long-term plan is to connect the logistics site to the high-level road network to redirect logistics traffic away from residential areas. The expansion of Lavaterstrasse to Stadtstrasse will serve as a key development function for the commercial area. Despite some opposition, the project aligns with urban planning objectives and is expected to have a positive impact on the area’s economic development.
