Expanding Access to Detox and Behavioral Health Services in Anchorage: Southcentral Foundation Breaks Ground on New Facility

Construction Begins on Southcentral Foundation’s New Behavioral Health Center in Anchorage

Southcentral Foundation recently gathered to break ground at the location of their upcoming behavioral health center in Anchorage. The new facility will offer a range of services, including in-patient behavioral crisis treatment, beds for those detoxing from substance abuse, and outpatient behavioral health services.

April Kyle, the president of Southcentral Foundation, highlighted the importance of this new facility in addressing the growing demand for detox services. She emphasized that the facility will benefit both Native and non-Native individuals in need of these essential services. The new facility is expected to increase the foundation’s capacity for detox beds by approximately a third, totaling 30 beds. Currently, the existing detox facility has a waitlist of around ten people.

In addition to detox services, the new behavioral health center will offer crisis stabilization for up to seven days. This will provide individuals with the necessary time and support to reintegrate into the community. For those requiring more intensive or extended care, the facility will be equipped to provide higher levels of care on-site. The aim is to offer individuals a holistic approach to behavioral health and substance abuse treatment.

Southcentral Foundation is dedicated to expanding access to essential healthcare services for the local community, with a focus on providing comprehensive behavioral health support. The anticipated completion date for the new facility is early 2026. It will be situated at the intersection of Elmore and Tudor roads in the U-Med district of Anchorage.
