Exceptional Nursing at SGMC Health: Squire Dison’s DAISY Award

Squire Dison was recently honored by SGMC Health with the June DAISY Award for exceptional nursing. He was recognized for his outstanding care and compassion towards both patients and their family members. Dison was nominated by a coworker in Case Management for his efforts in assisting a family member from out of the country in navigating the hospital.

The nomination highlighted how Dison went above and beyond by meeting the family member at the parking garage and escorting her to her mother’s room so she wouldn’t get lost. Additionally, he escorted her to her car when she was leaving, making sure she got safely to her destination. According to the coworker, Dison’s actions showed his commitment to going the extra mile for patients and their loved ones.

Cherise Giddens, the Chief Nursing Officer, praised Dison as an exemplary nurse who embodies the warm and friendly culture at SGMC Health. She commended his display of human kindness as a testament to his compassionate nursing. The hospital encourages patients and employees to nominate nurses who demonstrate exceptional care and dedication in their roles.

The DAISY awards are presented monthly in front of colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each recipient receives a certificate recognizing them as an “Extraordinary Nurse” and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch. The local sponsor of SGMC Health’s DAISY Award, The Flower Gallery, generously donates a special floral arrangement of daisies for each honoree. To nominate a nurse for the DAISY award, individuals can visit sgmc.org/daisy.

Dison is an inspiration to us all at SGMC Health as he sets an example of what it means to be an extraordinary nurse who goes above and beyond in caring for our patients and their loved ones.

During this time where healthcare workers are being recognized globally for their hard work during this pandemic, we want to celebrate these nurses that are being honored monthly through SGMC’s DAISY awards program. Cherise Giddens commended Dison’s display of human kindness as a testament to his compassionate nursing skills.

SGMC Health encourages patients and employees alike to recognize exceptional nurses who embody compassionate care within their roles through this monthly program that acknowledges nurses who have gone above and beyond in caring for our patients and their families during challenging times.

In conclusion, we recognize Squire Dison’s exceptional work as he has set an example of what it means to be an extraordinary nurse at SGMC Health through his outstanding care
