Recently released by the Carolina Panthers, running back Tarik Cohen is now set to join the New York Jets where head coach Robert Saleh is excited about the potential impact he can have on the team. The Jets plan to utilize Cohen’s explosiveness on special teams and potentially in their offensive schemes as well.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cohen has signed a one-year deal with the Jets. Cohen, who will be turning 29 in July, last played in the NFL in 2020 for the Chicago Bears. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending injury that year and missed the entire 2021 season recovering. After being released by the Bears in 2022, Cohen sustained another injury but is now attempting a comeback.
During his time with the Bears, Cohen showcased his versatility as a player. He ran for over 1,000 yards and caught over 200 passes, earning him All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections in 2018. Additionally, Cohen’s returning abilities are impressive, with over 600 yards on kick returns and nearly 1,000 yards on punt returns during his time in Chicago.
With Cohen now healthy and eager to make an impact, the Jets are hopeful that he can bring his playmaking abilities to their team and contribute in various aspects of the game. Saleh mentioned that with the new kickoff rules, players like Cohen, who excel in returning, can be valuable assets to a team.
