Everton Snubs Calvert-Lewin Purchase, Leaving Newcastle Striker in Limbo Amid Contract Discussions

Newcastle gives up on signing Everton’s Calvert-Lewin

As Everton’s pursuit of Newcastle striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has come to an end, the reported £40m deal was deemed too costly by the club. The Englishman is entering the final year of his contract with Everton and is in talks over a new deal with the Toffees. Since joining from Sheffield United for £1.5m in 2016, Calvert-Lewin has scored 68 goals in 248 games for Everton.

Meanwhile, there is no news on whether Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh will be joining Everton in a separate deal. Instead, there is a possibility that Minteh could move to French side Lyon, who have shown interest in signing the young Gambian international. Last season, while on loan at Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, Minteh scored 11 goals in 37 games under the management of new Liverpool boss Arne Slot.
