Everton Pays Tribute to the Late Kevin Campbell: A Beloved Icon and Hero on the Field

Everton has paid tribute to the late Kevin Campbell, a beloved player who passed away at the age of 54. Campbell was an integral part of the club from March 1999 until May 2004, during which he scored a remarkable nine goals in their final eight Premier League games that season, helping them avoid relegation.

The club expressed deep sadness at the news of Campbell’s passing, describing him as a true hero at Goodison Park and an icon of English football. They remembered him not just as a great player but also as an incredible person who had made history as Everton’s first black captain in the top-flight.

Campbell’s legacy will live on forever at Everton, where he scored a memorable winner in a Merseyside derby against Liverpool in September 1999. This goal ended a 22-year wait for an away win at Anfield for Everton and solidified his place in the hearts of fans. Campbell is currently fifth on the list of Everton’s highest Premier League scorers with 45 goals and has scored a total of 51 times in all competitions for the club. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him as “Super Kev” for his significant contributions to Everton.

The club thanked Campbell’s family and friends for their support during this difficult time, expressing their gratitude for his contributions to Everton. The team also took some time off from training to mourn the loss of their former teammate and friend.

Everton will continue to celebrate Campbell’s life and achievements while paying tribute to this beloved figure in English football history.
