EU Provides Long-Term Security Commitments to Ukraine, Plans for Annual Military Aid Investment until 2027

Security Commitments Signed Between the EU and Ukraine

On Thursday, the European Union (EU) provided long-term security commitments to Ukraine in Brussels. The agreement aims to support Ukraine in defending itself, countering destabilization efforts, and preventing future attacks. It includes economic, military, and industrial support as well as assistance in energy transition and nuclear power safety. Additionally, the parties agreed to share intelligence and satellite images.

The EU and its member states have pledged to enhance the delivery of necessary military aid to Ukraine with an annual budget of five billion euros for the Ukraine aid fund within the European Peace Fund this year. Further annual investments can be planned until 2027, taking into account the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and guidance from the Council of Member States.

The agreement highlights the EU’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in its membership efforts and providing training to its Defense Forces. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi expressed satisfaction with the opening of membership negotiations between the EU and Ukraine and thanked G7 countries for their decision regarding frozen Russian funds. He raised concerns about potential loosening of sanctions on Russian oligarchs and emphasized the importance of discussions on preparations for future peace summits.
