ESPN’s Paul Finebaum: Clemson Football’s Popularity is Slipping in the ACC

Florida State Surpasses Clemson According to Paul Finebaum

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program are a constant topic of discussion in the world of college football. Recently, Paul Finebaum, a prominent football personality, appeared on ESPN’s McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning to discuss his opinions on Clemson and its appeal in the ACC. Finebaum has been critical of Clemson in the past and his latest comments have sparked controversy.

According to Finebaum, Clemson’s popularity has declined in recent years, particularly since their dominant run from 2016 to 2018. He stated that Clemson has never been as attractive as traditional football powerhouses like Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Michigan, or Ohio State, and believes that they have fallen off from that status. Finebaum sees Florida State and other ACC schools as surpassing Clemson in appeal.

Finebaum also mentioned Miami and North Carolina as potential schools that could become more attractive than Clemson in the future, depending on how their programs develop. He suggested that if the Tigers do not step up, they risk falling further behind other ACC teams in terms of appeal.

Despite Finebaum’s criticisms, the 2024 season presents an opportunity for Clemson to prove him wrong. The Tigers have a chance to showcase their strength and regain their status as a top program in the ACC.
