Disney Entertainment and ESPN chief technology officer Aaron LaBerge has announced his departure from the company after more than 20 years. In an internal memo to staff, LaBerge cited personal reasons for his decision to leave and mentioned that he would be working with other executives to ensure a smooth transition until the end of June. He expressed confidence in the team and leadership to continue the progress they have made in the past 15 months.
LaBerge will be joining PENN Entertainment in June, where he will be working on ESPN’s online sportsbook. He expressed excitement about this new role, as it will allow him to contribute to the company’s success while being closer to his family. Disney’s executive vice president of content operations, Chris Lawson, will temporarily step into LaBerge’s role until a permanent replacement is found. Disney’s top executives expressed their gratitude for LaBerge’s contributions and leadership over the years, acknowledging that his new role at PENN Entertainment will further benefit Disney and ESPN.
LaBerge joins a list of veteran executives who have left Disney in recent years, including Sean Bailey, Christine McCarthy, Bob Chapek, Kevin Mayer, Alan Horn, Alan Braverman, and Zenia Mucha. Disney executives are looking towards the future as they navigate through this transition period.
