Erik ten Hag extends contract with Manchester United: a look at his achievements and future plans

Manchester United announce contract extension for Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag has extended his contract with Manchester United until June 2026, after leading the team to an FA Cup victory last season. The 54-year-old coach had just one year left on his previous deal, but has now signed an extension.

Reports suggest that his new contract is on the same terms as his previous one. Ten Hag expressed his excitement about continuing to work with the club on the official Manchester United website, saying “I am very pleased to continue working with the club.” He reflected on the past two years and the progress that they had made, despite areas for improvement identified in their review of last season.

In his first season at Old Trafford, ten Hag guided the team to a third-place finish in the Premier League and a Carabao Cup triumph. Though the team finished 8th in his second season, they ended on a positive note by winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

New sporting director Dan Ashworth expressed his confidence in ten Hag’s leadership abilities, stating “With two trophies in two seasons, Erik has proven himself to be one of the most consistently successful coaches in European football. Despite areas for improvement identified in our review of last season, it was clear that Erik was the ideal partner to help drive up standards and results.”

The club is hopeful that with a strengthened football leadership team in place, working closely with ten Hag will help achieve their shared ambitions for Manchester United. There are also rumors that former player Ruud van Nistelrooy could join ten Hag’s coaching staff during the upcoming summer transfer window.
