In response to this incident, a man from Bolton was taken into custody upon his return to the UK from the match. The 39-year-old was apprehended at Manchester Airport on Monday and had his passport confiscated by authorities. He is scheduled to appear before a Civil Football Banning Order hearing at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Mick Johnson, head of the UK Football Policing Unit, emphasized the consequences for fans intent on causing unrest. He stated that any British supporter engaging in disorder in Germany, which would be considered illegal in the UK, could face legal repercussions upon their return. Prior to the game, videos circulating on social media depicted clashes between fans where tables, chairs, and bottles were thrown before police intervened.

Despite this incident, Chief Police Officer Peter Both commended the behavior of most supporters during the match. Approximately 50,000 guests gathered to celebrate peacefully at Gelsenkirchen Stadium. Only a small group of around 150 individuals were involved in any conflict.
