Empowering the Fight Against Climate Change: HBS Alumni Unite and Network in Chicago

Alumni Climate Networking Series in Chicago: A Blog on Business and the Environment

The BEI Alumni in Climate Networking Series is an invitation to HBS Alumni to connect with other alumni who are using their careers to combat climate change. This series provides an opportunity to engage with local alumni and discuss ideas, trends, opportunities, and challenges at the intersection of business and the environment. On April 2nd, BEI collaborated with the HBS Club of Chicago to bring together approximately 40 alumni who are committed to making a difference in the fight against climate change through their professional endeavors. The event was graciously hosted by Brent Gledhill (MBA 1997) at the William Blair office in downtown Chicago. The event commenced with a presentation by two HBS faculty members, Forest Reinhardt and David Bell. Professors Reinhardt and Bell delved into how businesses and governments are adjusting their strategies and operations in response to the global climate crisis. They explored various agricultural methods in addressing climate change, specifically highlighting the potential impact of solutions like regenerative agriculture.

Following the presentation, alumni had the opportunity to network and establish connections. Personally, I had the privilege to engage with alumni working on initiatives related to electrifying transportation systems, developing software platforms for ESG reporting, advising berry farmers, and operating a marketing firm focused on vital social issues. Our intention with this series is to cultivate a community focused on climate action in key locations. We are eagerly anticipating our next event scheduled for June in London!
